Assignment 7: List of Spaces, Matrix and Bubble Diagrams

For this assignment we have to create our list of spaces for our design. Once we have a list we have to create a Matrix diagram. The Matrix diagram will help to organize my list of spaces and give me a better idea of how to do my bubble diagrams. 



Assignment 12 - Hybrid Study Model

For this assignment we had to generate a hybrid model from the study models that we did before. After receiving comments from my professors and classmates I decided to use 2 models of my study models to create my hybrid.

Assignment 11 - Study Models Based on Collages

For this assignment we were supposed to do 3 study models for each collage on the previous assignment. 

1. Study models based on my "Site Impression Collage". When I was doing these models, I was thinking about the day we went to visit our site and it was a really hot day and I felt like an ice, as if I was melting. So, one thing that I thought about when ice melts is that it disintegrates, it falls apart to become something else. Also, even though it was a hot day we were able to feel better when we stand on the shadows, which is also something that I tried to do with my models. They show how they disintegrate and create shadows.

 2. Models based on the "Adventurous Collage". When I was doing these models, I thought about the word adventurous and for me this means new ideas, something risky but it could be fun as well. So, I decided to incorporate legos into my models showing that they could be used as a structure or support and obviously legos are fun to work.

3. Study models based on the "Program Collage". When I was doing these models, I thought about my program. I will be designing a Culinary School with a Media center. Even though they are two different subjects they can still be combined and become one thing. So what I tried to do here was combining two different materials that at the end even though their texture and color is different they can still help each other to become one.

Assignment 10 - Concept Development

In this assignment, we have to create 3 collages. The first one is about the impression the site or the environment around it caused on us. In the second collage we have to choose a word and create a college that has to do with the word we chose. The third collage has to be about our program.

Site Impression Collage


The day we visited the site, it was a really hot day. It was not a very pleasant walk. When we were walking on the Highline since there was no shadows, I felt like I was melting. However, whenever we walk in the shadow, it made it a little bit more pleasant and I was able to enjoy the walk more. So, this collage expresses the way I felt the day we visited our site.
Adventurous Collage

For this collage I chose the word "Adventurous" and I'm trying to represent types of sports or things that people do that are risky but at the same time they could be fun to do.

Program Collage

For my program I decided to design a Culinary School with a Media Center. Even these two are different, they can actually be combined to create something new. For example, there could be a food network or documentaries about how the food is prepared and about how the students come up with their inventions. It is also a way to invite the public to come and share with them what the future chefs can do.

Assignment 6 - Space Organization

For this assignment we had to study the spaces of the buildings we are researching. I chose different colors to represent each room. The rooms that have no color are the ones that I was not able to determine what they were, some of the plans were really hard to read since they were small or pixelated. 

When I compared the culinary schools I researched, I realized that the architects kept it very simple. All of them have a restaurant or exhibition room and as per classrooms, the kitchen is their classroom. Something that I want to do for my design is to keep the restaurants separate from the school but at the same time for them to be connected. Students will be able to show their capabilities in the restaurant but they also should have a more private space. Also, I want to have special rooms for their different types of ingredients since some need a lower temperature than others.    



When I studied the Media Center Schools, I saw that a lot of the rooms are labs and classrooms. It is completely different from the culinary schools since all their classrooms have computers. One thing that they have in common with the culinary schools is that they both have an exhibition area. Also, the 2 plans for the media center look alike because the rooms go around a middle core. In addition, even though it looks like a complicated plan, they are easy to follow.
